Description

Your subscription fee will be refunded within 14 days of your notice of cancellation if you cancel during this period. Green bins are collected fortnightly from March to November, and every four weeks from December to February. We can help with collections if you are unable to take your bin or box to the kerbside because of disability or ill health through our 'pull out service'. If a bin has been lost, stolen or damaged, or you require additional recycling capacity, you can make a request online. You can apply for an additional green bin or request a replacement bin if your green bin is lost, stolen or damaged.

The program's purpose is to reduce the amount of waste shipped to landfills by recycling biodegradable waste into compost. From August 2023, all non-recyclable general waste from your green bin and from the bulky and black bag skips at recycling centres will be sent to an Energy from Waste Facility. Reusing materials helps to make sure that we are making the most of our waste and saves valuable natural resources. A green bin is a large, movable, rigid plastic or metal container that contains biodegradable waste or compostable materials as a means to divert waste from landfills. Green waste is taken to an open air composting facility where animals and birds could come in to contact with it.

By subscribing to the Garden Waste Collection Service you agree to be bound by the terms set out here. In Simcoe County, the introduction of the Green Bin on Sept 29th, 2008 to 16 municipalities, coupled with the weekly pickup for other recyclables, has led to a 50% diversion rate during the initial weeks of the program. Any material that can be recycled in the burgundy bin, blue bin, brown bin, black box or textile bag must not be placed in your green bin. Toronto, Ontario began its program in the Etobicoke area in 2002, and expanded it in subsequent years until the entire city was covered in 2005. York Region, Ontario has implemented a Green Bin program throughout the region as of September 17, 2007.

If we’re collecting an old bin from you, please leave it at the front of your property where we can easily access it. It is possible that during your subscription unforeseen events beyond Somerset Council’s control which affect the operation of the Garden Waste Collection Service may arise. When you register for the Garden Waste Collection Service, Somerset Council will confirm the start date of the service. For further guidance on recycling, the following links provide more information on household waste recycling centres and the network of public collection points for recycling. We’ll only deliver a second black bin to properties with six or more residents, or with two or more children in nappies. If you are still unsure, Recycle for Greater Manchester has more information on what to do with different items. Please leave your bins or sacks at the edge of your property by 7am on collection days (collection times can vary) and no earlier than the night before. We include a cut-out-and-keep guide to what goes in which bin in most editions of Cambridge Matters, the magazine we deliver to all residents every three months.

If you still have not received your sticker within 15 working days, please request an update from us. Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 you have the right to change your mind about your subscription and cancel your contract within a 14-day period. We are able to collect small quantities of polystyrene in your green lidded bin, we would ask where possible this is bagged. Our online payments system uses 3D Secure 2, also known as Verified by Visa and MasterCard SecureCode, for added security and fraud prevention. Your garden waste goes to one of several composting sites in Somerset, including Dimmer and Walpole, where it is shredded, and turned into compost. Do not put out additional waste or recycling next to your bin as this is not permitted and will not be uplifted.

The heat produced in this process is then used to generate electricity which is fed back into the national grid. Once we receive your completed waste audit application, it will be reviewed and we will let you know the outcome of your request. If you need to make changes to address or contact details for your existing additional bin, please also use the link below. Please do not present bagged waste next to your green bin, the collection teams will not collect it.
