It” terrified me so bad as a child that I still can’t pass by a sewer drain without being reminded of it. During the course of their journey, Gordie, Chris Chambers, Teddy Duchamp, and Vern Tessio come to terms with death and the harsh truths of growing up in a small factory town that doesn’t offer much in the way of a future. Though I hadn’t read this in 6, 7 years, the story has remained so fresh in my mind—partly due to the classic film adaptation, and partly because this is simply Stephen King at his very best, showing off all his skills. I skipped the other two short stories ( Apt Pupil and The Breathing Method) in this collection, for I don't have the desire to read about a boy desperately wanting to become a Nazi and a pregnant lady… having to breathe(?Many of his titles are the basis for major motion pictures including IT , Stand By Me (adapted from The Body ) and The Shawshank Redemption , which is IMDb's top-rated movie of all time. Gordie's friends are very impressed with his ability to invent such a detailed and entertaining story.

There are lyrical parts and trademark-King unflinching gory parts, and social commentary without the slightest sugar-coating. He's reminiscing about the summer of 1960 when along with three close friends, all on the cusp of becoming teenagers, set out to find the body of missing Ray Brower, who is their age and rumored to have been hit by a train. I've read other Stephen King short stories and I must confess: he has a way with words and storytelling. Aunt Evvie appears again in a flashback narrative told from the perspective of her niece Polly, one of the major characters in the story. Chris, who became an outstanding high school and college student and was in his second year of law school, is stabbed to death after trying to stop an argument in a fast-food restaurant(With the killer presumably being Jackie Mudgett, the one who pulled the knife in the final confrontation.This is the well-known story of four kids going on a hike to find the dead body of a boy somewhere along a railway track. The Body is special, though, because it is so of summer, and what it means to kids: King’s kid characters here are spot-on, and he inhabits the spirit of childhood a’la Ray Bradbury.

I’ve already added a few more of his books to my list that I’d like to pursue next and looking forward to more horror and fun!I always enjoy Stephen King pieces, as they keep me wondering where things will go in his circuitous writing style.
