Originally a beast with a beautiful smooth soapy smell and now it's just a ghost of it's former self. I admit that many of younger generations would probably think the smell of Number One is too classic and outdated - especially so in Japan, where I live. Strong at first, oddly sweet for a man's fragrance, not particularly lasting and just a hint of something very slightly artificial about it.A subtle difference occurs about 2 hours-in where it is more soapy and floral; the rose is most prominent, and it is slightly less animalic than before. Top notes are Artemisia, Bergamot, Juniper, Lemon, Green Apple, Caraway, Basil and Grapefruit; middle notes are Honey, Lavender, Rose, Jasmine, Sage, Geranium, Lily-of-the-Valley and Orris Root; base notes are Tobacco, Oakmoss, Patchouli, Sandalwood, Musk, Amber, Cinnamon and Cedar. Hugo Boss does not have similar scents, at least nowadays, and by chance I ended up discovering another faintly related scent in Givenchy Gentleman (the original), another masterpiece that I use on a regular basis now. Not without a reason, as this was originally released in 80s, and probably this popular fragrance was copied to everything around us over the years.I like to have a change fromt eh usuals every now and then, so after Dior Sauvage, Paco Raban Million I thought I'd try Hugo Boss.

I would say it's old school but none of the girls I know said that it smelled like of the old times. I find it more likely, that this definitely-not-bad boy has gotten its standout reputation by association with Gordon Gecko types of years past. At that time, the only fragrances I ever head of of were Jovan, Paco Rabanne (the original), and Boss. Although the new reformulation has altered the scent from the original formula which was a lot stronger! It has stayed the course and in touch with the times and is still accepted also in today's generation. Can you imagine a small, slim, shy 14 year old boy walking into class smelling of the original Boss No1? will bring the greatest pleasure to men who love adventure and good company, who are bold, continually dignified and always honest. I am seriously going down memory lane right now, complete with my the Kelly McGillis hair (think Top Gun), roll-up hem jeans and making out with my first boyfriend.

Eau de Toilette (EDT): EDT’s are not as highly concentrated in oils and elixirs as an EDP or Perfume would be and contain one to three per cent of fragrance oils.It does smell of money and older men with big bank accounts but, because it's dated, it is now considered a somewhat cheap and a nostalgic scent. Some reviews say it's reminiscent of urinal pucks due to mix of cleaned restroom notes and pussy/musky/orange. This has the class, just not quite the power of its 80's contemporaries - which can be good or bad depending on your personal tastes and the environments in which you work/play. After a couple of hours or so a more 'earthy' smell begins to emerge - possibly from the patchouli or the oakmoss and something richer, more woody - likely the sandalwood element.
