About this deal

One thing that should be pointed out: on my AT PRO the shafts have locking collars… After a year of hunting with the ACE 250, there appeared a play in its shafts. Garrett Ace 250 metal detector can be used for Dry/Fresh Water Sand (sand above the tide line where salt mineralisation has not dispersed, wet or dry freshwater sand). One more thing from practical experience with the Minelab Go-Find… I’ve paid attention to such fact: when the Go-Find 20 signals that the batteries are discharged (it has such feature), these very batteries appear to still work in the ACE 250. The ACE 250 screen, in my opinion, is not contrasting enough (may be I need to give it a good scrub? Part of the American brand's Ace series, it's user-friendly and packed with functions, making it ideal for budget-conscious detectorists and hobbyists.

In this mode, you will see the 12-segment discrimination scale with darkened cursors to accept nickels, and the higher six segments for most coins with no cursors shown to reject the trash icons just mentioned. As many of you know by now, Garrett's Ace 250 is a metal detector that is very light on weight yet heavy on features and performance. Also secure the coil wire straight up the shaft for the first 8-10" or so then wind it up to the control box. This fact was also clear for Garrett, so they’ve manufactured the whole generation of metal detectors to substitute the 250 model. An issue I noticed was that it’s not a friendly detector – it does not like the company of other detectors!

I also should mention one long-time user of the Ace 250 who swears by this detector, and sometimes his finds-rate is higher than that of users of the most advanced machines. As you can see in the accompanying photo, the LCD's left side lists the modes available, the center indicates sensitivity level, and the right side the depth readings. And, of course, there is no sense in comparing the beginner-level detector with any expert-level machine.

Then, in the course of time you will start seeing between the signals (their tone and indication) received from bottle caps and coins. Therefore, once there is a signal to investigate, it may be a good idea to pinpoint the exact location and then run “center over center” for a more accurate depth and target ID. The metal detectors of other manufacturers (Minelab, Fisher) have long had additional twist locks that exclude such a play.
