About this deal

Just a true and distinctly scary account of an idiot full of his own paranoia that somehow, scariest of all, made it to the top of his political field. From this book it is impossible to estimate how many lost lives Putin has been responsible for, but the lists of those who were once close and have died in mysterious circumstances is extraordinary. skaityti autoriaus mintis apie beveik mirštantį Putiną ir Rusijai prastai besiklostantį karą iš šios dienos perspektyvos, kai frontas tapo varginančiu beveik nejudančiu karu, o Ukrainai pasaulio dėmesio ir karinių reikmenų tenka vis mažiau. Sweeney is an irreverent, dogged, and sometimes uncontrolled investigative journalist with vast experience around the world on the trail of murderous autocrats. Deliveries to destinations outside Australia are made by DHL courier, and cannot be made to post office boxes.

Overall, especially with Sweeney's conversationalist style and humour, Killer in the Kremlin is a good book to read, and I would recommend it as a solid primer for the works of Luke Harding, Catherine Belton, Mark Urban and Owen Matthews, who help detail many of the people and points in Sweeney's book in greater depth and detail. The book itself is engrossing from Chapters 1-13 after which it starts to lose itself in waffle for a couple of chapters, almost as though a first draft was used, he was under the influence or it was written by someone else, however it does start to recover from Chapter 16. The evil dwarf-president is merely another one of those damn fool misfits like that scrappy little Stalin, or wee little Lenin.

Interestingly, Queen Elizabeth and the King of Spain were made to wait for a shorter while than leaders of state (such as Obama or Merkel). One thing is certain, many more Ukraine and Russian soldiers, and sadly many more Ukraine citizens will die and the Ukraine cities, countryside and economy will be scared for generations. Ukraine, always in our thoughts today, and John Sweeney gives an insight not only into Putin the man but also hardships faced by frontline war correspondents.

John Sweeney has a long career in investigative journalism and as such his experience of and interest in Russia and Putin helps to create a very readable and useful book. As a reporter, first for The Observer, then the BBC Sweeney has covered wars and chaos in more than eighty countries and been undercover to a number of tyrannies including Chechnya, North Korea and Zimbabwe. Unlike the Germans in WWII, where their access to information was limited, now there are many more sources available and even the ones in the west are not protesting or helping Ukrainians (with a few exceptions).

He had been visited at his hotel by Davis, despite not having shared the address with the Church, and had been followed on several different occasions. It was somewhat validating to see that Rennie and I weren't alone in our concern with the lack of citations here. After a career with the BBC, Sweeney is now determined to let the world know the Russia story under Putin, and the evidence that that this man is a sadistic psychopathic kleptocratic pleoneviat (look it up). p. 267) This may take us back to the autumn of 1952, when the ailing Stalin seems to have been planning yet another terrible crime against humanity. His death made a striking impression on Sweeney: “Nemtsov was an extraordinary man, the sweetest, funniest and most human Russian I’ve ever met.
