About this deal

The nippers are super sharp and can be resharpened if they go a bit blunt, they are also textured so they stay grippy when you are snipping with wet hands. The eye needle is super useful to clear any goop in the eye, and you can even sharpen your hooks so ever miss a fish. Nail knot tying tool: This 4” long brass tool is used for tying a Nail Knot on a fly line. Various types of nail knots can be made, and the tool has a hook eye cleaner attached. Hi Guys, I haven't posted here for a while. As some of you may know, I have only been fishing for a couple of years as I never fished as a kid. For this reason I missed out on acquiring all the basic skills. Even hook tying has been a learning curve. Eyed hooks were not so much of a problem but spade end hooks are another matter. I have been experimenting with tying spade end hooks for a while. I know I can buy them ready tied but it bugged me that I could not do it myself. I have tried all sorts of hookers, I even spent a kings ransom on a ZT Pro hook tyer - my thoughts on it can be found HERE. I found I could tie a hook easier with a tyer if I could hold the line tight and I came up with a magnetic solution while trying to tie knots with a Matchman like this:

The HOOK-EZE Fishing Gear Knot Tying Tool is an incredibly versatile tying tool, and it comes with a ton of handy extras to make tying knots and some additional tasks a lot easier. I filled up my rig boxes in no time and now arrive at the water with an insane amount of choice and am never short of options. The ability to continually vary the hooklengths dependant upon changing conditions has improved my confidence no end.In addition to helping you tie strong knots, this knot-tying tool also has a snipper to trim your tag ends with, a sharpener to ensure your hooks are super sharp, and an eye cleaner to remove any gunk in the hook eye to make knot-tying easier. The TYEPRO Fishing Knot Tying Tool makes tying knots about as easy as it can be. We have all experienced, as we have gotten older, how much harder it has become to thread the line through the eye of a hook, especially with tiny hooks and super thin lines, but this tying solves that for you. The Matchman Hook Tyer from Middy is perfectly designed to aid with the tying of spade end hooks. Specialising in small sizes, this is a handy tool for any angler to have in their arsenal. If you’ve been sat out on the bank or beach for hours on end, chances are you fingers will have gotten cold and your knot tying skills will have been compromised. With the Matchman Hook Tyer your knots will be strong and sturdy, no matter how cold your hands are. Pass your line around the clamp. Ensure that the line is held tight at all times and rotate the tyer away from you ensuring your line lays directly underneath the spade of the hook.

Unscrew the clamp wheel and pull gently on the line coming from the spade. Your hook and line will pull from the tyer, whilst tightening the knot. At this point it helps to add a bit of spit to the knot to help reduce friction. Once tight, trim the excess line. It might take some practice to learn how to use the nail knot tying tool, but it is much easier than trying to tie a nail knot without it. Something I love about this tool is that it comes with a non-reflective finish so that if the sun catches it, it doesn’t reflect the light into the water and spook any fish. The matchman hook tyer is the most popular model in the UK and is supplied on a card that includes full instructions on how to use it. There are also many instruction videos on how to use it. If you are looking for a great hook tyer without any other additional tools, then this is the best you can buy.Species caught in 2012: Ash, Aspen, Beech, Big Nasty Stinging Nettle, Birch, Copper Beech, Grey Willow, Holly, Hazel, Oak, Wasp Nest (that was a really bad day), White Poplar. Hook tier: A multi-tool made from brass with a built-in vice tool clamp. It’s easy to use for tying any size or type of fishing hook onto any fishing line. The clamp-style hook tyer is one of the most common forms of hook tyer as it can be used for even the smallest of hook sizes. The downsides to this knot tying tool are that it is quite expensive for what it is, so it is not great value, and it doesn’t work that well for large hooks or swivels. Pros Having watched the videos that Dennis Vause posted on YouTube I envisaged cranking out the hooklengths within 5 minutes of unboxing it, but this is not the case. Firstly you have to adjust the station properly so that the hook lengths calibrate to your rig box, and then getting the hang of the tying technique. The calibration is not difficult (and he has posted videos of how to do so) but it does take a few minutes to get this right. Fortunately it is a one off operation.

Rotate the tyer away from you for one full turn ensuring the loose line lays tight to the spade. Upon the next rotation, angle the looses line so that you begin whipping down the shank. As my eyesight and dextrosity is not what it was I have been finding it increasingly difficult to tie my hooks by the waterside and so resorted to buying hooks to nylon. However, there never seems to be the right combination of hooks, line, bands/stops etc. and so initially started tying my own at home with a Matchman Hook Tyer but found that the twisting of the line meant that the hook didn't always hang correctly, and I was stumped about how to add hairs/bands/stops (probably just my ineptitude!) . After one full rotation, alter the angle of the line coming off the spade so as to begin whipping down the hook shank. Remember to keep the line tight at all times. Tying knots isn’t always easy, especially if you have shaky hands or poor eyesight, and some knots are just hard to tie in general, such as a nail knot or an FG knot. By making consistent and easier knots by tying the right knots properly, you will catch more fish, so why not grab one of our top recommended fishing knot tying tools? Thanks very much for reading my article. I hope you enjoyed it and found the perfect knot-tying tool for your style of fishing. Just remember to choose the right knot tying tool for your fishing needs, as each one is very different from the next. This is an extremely lightweight, portable, durable, and affordable knot tying tool you can use anywhere. The only annoying thing about it is that larger hooks tend not to fit into it very well. Pros The technique takes a little longer to master as it seems to be principally about line tension. Probably another hour to get this right. Overall, this is an excellent fly fishing knot tying tool if you tie nail knots often as it is perfect for that, affordable, and durable too. The only downside is that it only helps you tie nail knots and not a full range of knots. Pros
