About this deal

In the early 1990s, there was tremendous fear that if Germany was reunified then perhaps we would see the Fourth Reich, there were fears in the 1980s that Japan would take over the world. I notice on Rosen’s desk an unframed photograph of a young man. Rosen swivels to look. “That’s him,” he says, “not all that long before he died.” In our lives, terrible things may happen. Michael Rosen has grieved the loss of a child, lived with debilitating chronic illness, and faced death itself when seriously unwell in hospital. In spite of this he has survived, and has even learned to find joy in life in the aftermath of tragedy.

If I could prescribe Getting Better to the entire nation, I would… It’s a book that inspires hope, courage and belief in humanity. Basically, it reminds you how to live. I loved every single word’ Dr Rachel ClarkeHe points to a cardboard box on which is scrawled the word HELMET, and I wonder what else of Eddie might be crammed into this den, out of sight. Embrace your team to focus on “Why”. Building a get-better team will create an eco-system that works towards a holistic vision and results. While all the self help rant the same stuff, this book is crisp & clear with the sole purpose of what it wants to deliver. I would like to recommend this book to everyone who like me are unable to find some answers or I will say who have poor GBM (getting better model)

Contrarian arguments can be fascinating. This author was briefly mentioned in the New York Times' 2010 year-end “10th Annual Year in Ideas”, which also linked to his article in Foreign Policy from a few months ago: Best. Decade. Ever.: The first 10 years of the 21st century were humanity’s finest — even for the world's bottom billion. Wisdom imparted by the author is applicable not just in sales and marketing ( business) but in any real life scenario where we just stop ourselves from going any further, the moment we know the answer rather than knowing the method of finding the answer.

I don’t doubt that he’s correct. In a similar vein, Steven Pinker presented an argument on the myth of violence at TEDtalks in 2007 (see the 19-minute video). I’ve read quite a bit on how our brains aren’t quite as rational as we prefer to think they are, and several of those cognitive biases lead us to focus more on negative things and remember them better; the “infotainment” shows we turn to for “news” operate on the if it bleeds, it leads tactic, which further reinforces our beliefs that things are nasty. A GBM is made up of four key components and these must be practiced deliberately for getting better.
