About this deal

Yes! This is the bit I mentioned earlier about the fertiliser in Lechuza-Pon. Some Lechuza substitutes don't include fertiliser (which isn't a bad thing), but because Lechuza-Pon does include a short-term, slow-release fertiliser, although you do not have to fertilise right away, you DO still need to fertilise long-term. The multiple filtering in production reduces the fine particles in the substrate to a minimum. This prevents a silting up in the root area and sustains a long-lasting capillarity. Two of the best ones on the market here in NZ are Dyna-Gro and GT (Growth Technology). For light-feeders and plants more salt- and pH-sensitive, like Orchids, Hoya and some Aroids, Dyna-Gro and GT are free of urea, and GT is also free of chlorides (the most common, highest-salt ingredient in most fertilisers), and is pH balanced. Both are superb.

Arvin: I would say it's a free-for-all. Each plant will have its own dependent factors, such as the type, the variety, of plant, location, humidity, watering requirements, temperature and the actual requirements for the substrate itself. So all of these factors need to be taken on board in terms of when you're transferring any type of plant. Whether it's roses, Hoyas, succulents, orchids, each plant will have its own unique functions that you need to be looking out for. We categorise them into two areas. The first ones, the heavy-wetting plants, they will, obviously, require wetter conditions, damper conditions, and generally, in that case, is we would have a reduced dry phase. You would water, once that water is taken in by the plant you'd have a one to five days break where you wouldn't want to water. Then there's the second stage, which is where some plants will require drier conditions or drier periods where they're not being watered. We generally educate all of our customers to observe a type of dry phase, whether it's a slightly reduced one or a very long one. In terms of a full dry cycle, I would recommend a standard drying phase of anywhere between three and fourteen days on a normal type planter, which requires slightly drier periods of watering. Generally, the reason being is that it will develop a strong rooting system and, as the roots then span out to search for water, the health of the plant increases because it's now trying to span out, trying to gauge a larger area of the planter which they probably didn't venture into before. Let's return to our chat about Lechuza Pon and I wanted to find out whether you have to buy the pots from Lechuza, or whether you can just buy the Pon and use your own pots. The substance zeolite stabilizes the ideal PH balance for a healthy plant growth in your LECHUZA planter. Macro and micronutrients remain permanently.

Transitioning to Pon

Pon holds water better than Leca, so after the initial drench when repotting, step away from the watering jug! If your plant is really going through the wars and desperate for water before 2 weeks is up (normally for a plant that must be kept moist and can't handle drying out), you may need to water before 2 weeks is up. The third method is a complete repot into 100% Pon. That involves removing all organic matter like soil and potting mix, rinsing the roots, then planting fully in Pon. This is also popular for avoiding pests (mainly fungus gnats, but more about pests coming up). 100% Pon also helps avoid irritants for sensitive or allergy sufferers such as fungus spores. After 1-2 weeks have passed, add water to the reservoir. Refill the reservoir whenever you notice it empty. Troubleshooting & Questions:

Top watering or the 'shower method' (which does not literally require a shower), is what works best for me but I'm planning to shift a few of my established plants to self-watering this season to save on maintenance time since they're a pain to shift to the sink. My Superfan tier earns you a personal greeting from me in the mail including a limited edition postcard, as well as ad-free episodes. The watering method you choose largely depends on the pot type. In a self-watering pot you can simply keep the water reservoir topped up once the plant's established. However the shower method is the best option for Pon in a normal nursery pot with drainage holes. Just a reminder, also, that after that 200th episode, the first 50 episodes of On The Ledge will be going Patreon-only, so if you're not a Patreon, of the Ledge-end or the Superfan level, you won't be able to hear those first 50 shows on free-to-listen any more, but you will be able to sign up to Patreon to hear them and there'll still be 150 free episodes to hear. Lechuza noemt dit de ‘droge fase’ die 2 tot 10 dagen duurt, afhankelijk van je plantYou certainly can as Lechuza Pon is quite popular and chances are that you won’t always be able to buy it. Pon for Plants has many advantages over general potting soil as it is more airy and less inhabitable for pests Pon Soil My first plants to transition were few Hoyas, few Philodendrons, Alocasia, and Anthurium. Here’s my step by step advice for moving plants to pon:

Hvis din plante før har stået i semihydrokultur, er det ikke nødvendigt med tilpasning, og du kan bruge vandreservoiret med det samme.

Leca vs Pon – Leca is airier and lighter compared to Pon

Fertilisers for hydro and semi-hydro will normally be complete and balanced, including all 12 essential minerals, not just the 3 macro's (nitrogen, potassium and phosphorus), like many soil fertilisers do. I prefer hydro / semi-hydro fertiliser for all my plants, not just those in Leca and Pon. Add a layer of Pon to the bottom quarter or so of the pot. Rest the root ball on that layer then fill the remainder with Pon, or if adding Myco for the roots, sprinkle a little Myco on the bottom Pon layer, directly under where the root ball will go, before adding the plant and the filling with Pon. Being smaller and heavier than Leca, Pon secures and holds plants in place better.
