About this deal

The first two medicines are called dried aluminium hydroxide gel and magnesium hydroxide. They belong to a group of medicines called antacids. You are allergic to aluminium hydroxide or magnesium hydroxide or any of the other ingredients in Maalox Suspension (listed in section 6).

This medicine is available without prescription. Always take this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you.Aluminium hydroxide and magnesium hydroxide are both medicines called antacids. They are used to reduce the acidity of the stomach's juices. Stomach acid is produced in the stomach as a normal part of the digestive process. However, too much stomach acid can cause symptoms such as heartburn and indigestion. Antacids work by binding to and neutralising excess acid. This helps to relieve the pain and discomfort of heartburn and indigestion associated with excess stomach acid. Medicines used to treat stomach ulcers and acidity such as ranitidine or cimetidine (H 2 antagonists)

This medicine is available without prescription. However, you still need to use Maalox Plus carefully to get the best results from it. Medicines used to treat some allergic, inflammatory or abnormal immune reactions such as glucocorticoids Simeticone: To relieve the symptoms of excessive gas in the gastrointestinal tract, which causes burping, bloating and flatulence. Simeticone often comes combined with other ingredients such as medicines to treat indigestion ( antacids) or diarrhoea. In patients with renal impairment, plasma levels of both aluminium and magnesium increase. In these patients, a long-term exposure to high doses of aluminium and magnesium salts may lead to dementia, microcytic anemia. Only give them one 5ml spoonful, up to three times a day, between 20 minutes to one hour after a meal.Maalox Plus is a white suspension, homogenous after shaking and is available in a plastic bottle. Each bottle contains 250ml or 355ml with polypropylene closure. Adults and adolescents aged 12 years and over should take one to two 5ml spoonfuls four times a day, 20 minutes to one hour after meals and at bedtime, as needed to relieve symptoms. Large doses of this product may trigger or aggravate intestinal obstruction and ileus in patients at risk (see section 4.4). Medicines and their possible side effects can affect individual people in different ways. The following are some of the side effects that are known to be associated with this medicine. Just because a side effect is stated here does not mean that all people using this medicine will experience that or any side effect.

You should still seek medical help even if it’s several weeks, months or a year after you return from travelling. If there’s a possibility you have malaria, a blood test will be carried out to confirm whether or not you’re infected. You should receive the results of your blood test on the same day. Animal studies are insufficient with respect to reproductive toxicity (see section 5.3). Maalox is not recommended during the first trimester of pregnancy and in women of childbearing potential not using contraception. Caution should be exercised when prescribing to pregnant and lactating women.
